Today In NHL History - Pettersson Apology & Goal

On January 7th in 2020, Vancouver Canucks forward Elias Pettersson accidentally struck Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman Jan Rutta in the face with a goal mouth saucer pass intended for Brock Boeser.

Pettersson immediately paused and apologized to his fallen opponent. With Rutta headed to the bench for repairs, Boeser intercepted a Steven Stamkos pass inside the blueline, finding a wide open Pettersson who deftly deked Andrei Vasilevskiy for the opening goal of the game. Rutta returned to the game and Tampa beat the Canucks 9-2.

That's today in NHL history.
